Kunde Family estate wedding

There are so many wonderful things to love about this Sonoma wedding, but by far my favorite is this super sweet couple. I knew from the second that I met Brittany and Andy in San Francisco for their engagement session earlier this year that they were my kind of couple. To state the obvious, they are absolutely gorgeous, but that wasn’t what immediately won me over. Their love for each is absolutely apparent and anytime they’re around each other you can actually see their faces light up. It truly was the sweetest thing to witness and photograph.

Brittany and Andrew were married at the Kunde Family Estate in Sonoma. If you haven’t checked out this venue, do yourself a favor and go take a peek. It was included in Green Wedding Shoes list of the coolest places to get married in the US and with views like this, I can understand why. It also makes perfect sense that Brit and Andy knew immediately that this was the venue for them. “When Andy and I got engaged, we knew that a wedding here would mean so much to us- California is where we met & built our life together.  And when it came time to pick a venue, we both instantly knew that it had to be Kunde Winery in Sonoma. Not only did we love the wine & the beautiful property, but it was such a special place to us. We spent some of our favorite moments together there.”, Brittany stated.

The couple’s wedding vision was brought to life with the help of Alicia K Designs and Mae Flowers. These two rock star vendors worked together to create a color concept that perfectly paired with the surrounding landscape and only enhanced the beauty that Sonoma offers. I mean, how dreamy is Britt’s bouquet?!? It’s a sunset in bouquet form.

I asked the couple if they had any advice for couples currently planning and here’s what they said, “The biggest piece of advice I would give to couples is to try to savor every moment leading up to the wedding and the day of- everyone told us how quickly it goes by, but I don’t think we truly understood how quick that would really be! We had such an amazing time with our friends and family on our wedding day, and it was so special that so many people flew in from the East Coast and Midwest (where we grew up) to be with us in California.”

The photos that are currently filling your wedding Pinterest board are easier to obtain than you may think and I’m here to help. A few thoughtful choices before your wedding day can lead to a gallery full of stunning photographs that would make even the most Pinterest obsessed bride jealous. The following 5 simple tips can help make your picture perfect getting ready photos happen.

1. Pick a location with plenty of space and light.

It takes a little legwork, but finding a great space to get ready in will always be worth the extra effort. When searching for a pre-ceremony spot look for spaces that are chock full of natural light and have plenty of room for you and bridal party to relax in while getting ready.

TIP #1: Vacation rentals sites like VRBO and Airbnb are great resources that are worth exploring.
TIP #2: If you’re getting ready in a hotel, kindly ask for a corner room to allow for the most natural light.

2. Keep it cohesive.

Pick a pre-ceremony space that compliments the overall vision for your wedding day. Are you opting for an elegant and upscale wedding? I suggest selecting an equally exquisite space to get ready in. Planning a rustic ranch wedding? A getting ready location with a farmhouse feel would be the way to go.

TIP: Having a tough time finding a place that fits your wedding vision? Opt for a clean and neutral space that will act as a blank canvas.

3. Clear the clutter.

Before your getting ready photos begin, clear the room of as much stuff as possible. Luggage, dirty clothes, shoes, uneaten food, everything. I promise that you will not want to look back through your photographs and see this stuff. Even if you have to throw it into a closet, just do it. Otherwise, I will do it, but this takes away from valuable photography time.

TIP: Enlist a bridesmaid/groomsmen to help keep on top of clearing the space. I promise she/he won’t mind.

4. Less can be more.

Try and be mindful of the number of people that you invite to get ready along with you. If your space is small and you pack in the people, it can be a possible recipe for cramped and unflattering photos.

TIP: Want to be surrounded by all of your favorite people when you get ready? No problem! Just plan for a larger space that will accommodate all of your loved ones and will still allow for room for me to move around to capture all of the fun.

5. Set the tone for your day.

Start the morning with your favorite playlist streaming through a set of speakers in the background, pour a bit of bubbly with your besties, and truly enjoy the process of getting ready with your favorite people. Before you know it you’ll be heading out the door to get married.

Greengate Ranch wedding photographer Jen Rodriguez

Amber and Brit planned their stunning Greengate Ranch wedding in just four months! Can you believe it? Looking through these photos, its almost hard to imagine that such a stunning vision was brought to life in such a short period of time. But then again, with a dream team wedding roster that includes Vanessa Noel Events, Noonan’s Wine Country Designs, Field to Table Catering, Paper
Cake Events, and more, it really isn’t a surprise at all. Every single cranberry hued detail of this day was pure perfection, including the jaw dropping floral arrangements crafted by Katie at Noonan’s. I mean, if they gave awards for the most beautiful bridal bouquet, I’d have to say that Amber’s free flowing masterpiece would for sure take the prize. Wouldn’t you agree?

Big Sur engagement session

I don’t know how I got so lucky, but my job brings me the most absolutely breathtaking locations, to capture some of the most amazing people, EVER! Big Sur just so happens to be one of those locations that I fall more and more in love with it every time I’m there. The backdrops are so scenic and stunning, they almost don’t look real. From gorgeous little river ways, to open fields surrounded by trees, to a beautiful beach spotted with purple sand and views for
days, it’s no wonder that I find myself wandering through the landscape, with amazing couples in tow, capturing all kinds of loving moments more and more often. I’m so thankful that we were able to find the perfect spot for their session while Stephen was home from the service. I think that Big Sur fit their easy going personalities and outdoor loving hearts just perfectly. I’m looking forward to seeing them again this October at Reinstein Ranch!

Calamigos ranch wedding

Karla and Stephen had their Calamigos Ranch wedding on a beautiful summer day and it was nothing short of bohemian inspired perfection. From bridesmaids dresses in the perfect shades of purple, the dainty flower crowns that all the ladies wore, and Karla’s dress that OMG had to have been dreamed up with her specifically in mind, every single detail of this wedding is sure to make your boho loving heart skip a beat. The mastermind behind Dorothy Rose Events helped pull Karla and Stephen’s vision together with the help of Seabreeze flowers and if you ask me, I think they did a pretty incredible job. While I’m partial to the whole event from start to finish, I’d have to say that I absolutely loved the circular display made of greenery that was hung from the branches above the sign in table. It stopped me in my tracks and was such a great way to add something unexpected and fun to the space! Another highlight of the day for me is when I snuck the couple away for their sunset photos. Now some of you may not know this, but Calamigos Ranch has multiple event spaces on their property and at any one time multiple events can be going on. When you reserve your wedding space you are only allowed to be in that designated area during your event, no wandering allowed. It makes sense, they don’t want people interfering with other people’s parties. I get it. It
normally wouldn’t  have been an issue of any kind except that I already had been daydreaming of taking photos in front of the famous Ferris wheel. I’m an upstanding citizen, I follow the rules, I don’t speed (too much), and I generally don’t like making people mad but something in me just needed to make these photos happen. Yes, it meant very gently bending the rules, but c’mon, it’s a Ferris wheel, people! We slowly left our designated space and make our way to the location I couldn’t get out of my mind. We made our way to the grassy field that sits in front of the Ferris wheel and with the biggest smile on my face I began to shoot. The sun was streaming down behind them and onto us and for a moment I might have heard angels singing. Unfortunately, it took all but 60 seconds for someone to spot us and head over to us to ask us to move. I pretended not to hear them (A move that I’ve picked up from my kids!) and it bought us an additional 30 seconds of shooting time. With that huge smile still on my face, I apologized and we left. I still got to capture some more sunset photos as we headed back to the reception but for a few short minutes near the Ferris wheel I pushed the rules to give my clients something that I knew they would love and I’d do it all over again!
